Liner Notes

Akua Kamau This song has been months in the making. Strictly speaking it is not a song, instead it is a Spoken Word piece and this is the very first time I have recorded my voice and released in as part of my work. The language being spoken is Swahili and this is the mother tongue of a number of tribes in East Afrika. In this song we reach out to the Ancestors and we express our love for them. We then thank the land, water animals and plants for dilligently carrying out their respective roles on this very sacred place we call Earth. Next we speak to a few departed sons and daughters of Afrika and we thank them for their sacrifices and the examples that they have set for us.

However there are so many stalwarts who gave very unselfishly of themselves in trying to make their specific country (and in some cases, all of Afrika) a better place for the present generation and those still to some. In a song which lasts for just under seven (7) minutes and twenty (20) seconds, it is impossible to name ALL who gave of themselves and so to those Ancestors whose names were not called we say 'you are loved and respected equally to those whose names were called. Your omission was based solely on the availability of time within the song and is not meant to be an indication of your worthiness in any way'.

Ultimately, this song is intended to show reverence to the Ancestors, the land, the plants and the animals and to some of Afrika's greatest sons and daughters and overall, for the sacred space we now call Afrika.
